Innovative Treatment of Sports Injuries at Confraternität Private Hospital
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Gäbler
Sports traumatology, trauma surgery
“Don’t leave injuries of the cruciate ligament untreated” – says Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Gäbler, Head of Department of sports and joint surgery at Confraternität Private Hospital.
Even if the pain is not that severe, untreated injuries of the cruciate ligament can cause irretrievable damage to the meniscus or the joint cartilage, warns Prof. Gäbler.
Active people are in most cases advised to undergo surgery. Two new minimally invasive methods bring optimal results. The “all-inside-technique” where a tendon is taken from the inner side of the thigh, sewn up several times and then implanted into the knee, is the most gentle method for injured patients.
A completely new technique allows Prof. Gäbler to save the cruciate ligament and fix it where it has torn. This method can be applied only if patients do not delay their decision for this operation.
Prof. Gäbler is very pleased about the results: the new operation methods bring many advantages for the patients: the stress for the whole organism is reduced considerably, blood loss and infection risk are minimized. Patients are very satisfied as they feel less pain and can quickly return to their active life.
